Delicious Swedish Food It was a bribe for policemen

Sandwiches have saved countless lives. Everyone loves the basic, affordable heroes, young & old.

John Montagu, fourth Earl of Sandwich, developed the sandwich in the 18th century.

Montagu devised this portable cuisine because he didn't want to leave his gaming table.

Sandwiches come in many varieties. Classic ones have two layers of bread with a filling in between, while open-faced ones have one slice topped with ingredients.

Scandinavians call open-faced sandwiches smorrebrod.

Smorrebrod is popular in Denmark, Norway, & Sweden (per Scandi Kitchen). Sweden has a traditional food that's like an evolved sandwich, & police officers once requested it as a bribe.

Swedish sandwich cakes are called smorgastarta. This spring & summer sandwich cake is popular at parties & birthdays.
